OXFORD, Ala. — A booming population and rapid industrial growth in west Oxford have prompted local health care and business leaders to team up for a major expansion of emergency services.

Oxford Health Systems recently announced plans to build a new Oxford Paramedics ambulance station in the western portion of the city. The project is moving forward thanks to a land donation from Joey Callahan, the owner of GC Group Holdings and a Republican nominee for Alabama House District 32.

Tom Dixon, CEO of Oxford Health Systems, praised Callahan’s background in public safety and local government, noting it gives him a rare understanding of what growing municipalities need to thrive.

“He understands the importance of ensuring residents have access to high-quality emergency medical care close to home,” Dixon said. “His generosity and commitment to community service have helped make this project possible, and we are extremely grateful for his support; Joey is a guy who truly gets it when it comes to taking care of communities and serving others.”

Oxford Health Systems has not yet released a finalized timeline for construction or an official opening date, but it is known that the future EMS site will be located within the Oxford Oaks development. Officials said the strategic placement of the facility will drastically improve emergency medical response times and access for people living in west Oxford, Bynum and Eastaboga.

Dixon noted that successful growth requires cooperation across public and private sectors, especially when it comes to safety.

“As west Oxford booms with new industrial growth, continued expansion of existing industry, and 400-plus homes coming soon, partnerships like this, where a developer, such as Mr. Callahan, along with the city and the health system, come together to ensure the community is protected, are amazing,” Dixon said.
