2 Boston EMTs hospitalized after assault at Caribbean Festival

BOSTON — Two Boston EMTs were hospitalized after being assaulted while responding to an emergency call, according to Boston EMS.

The EMTs were responding to a call near Cheney Street during the city’s Caribbean Festival when the assault occurred on Aug. 29, according to the Boston EMS union.

“Several BPPA EMS EMTs were assaulted, requiring treatment at local hospitals while doing their jobs at yesterday’s Caribbean Festival, including being bitten, kicked in the head, and struck by thrown objects,” the union said in a statement.

The EMTs were taken to a hospital and treated for their injuries, a Boston EMS spokesperson said.

The union said both EMTs were treated and released, condemning violence against responders and thanking Boston police for their assistance.
