DETROIT — Detroit EMS can now add two “power” stretchers to its list of donated equipment, and the agency hopes to buy 26 more.
The two stretchers were a gift from Stryker Corporation, Click on Detroit reports. They electronically raise and lower patients, which the company says reduces back injures for EMS providers.
The equipment comes on the heels of last year’s $8 million donation from a group of business leaders for the purchase of 10 new ambulances and 15 new police cruisers.
The struggling department has been making significant strides to improve equipment and services.
Detroit EMS plans to work with the city to find funding and grants of up to $500,000 to pay for 26 more stretchers at a cost of $19,000, as well as other equipment, including new gurneys in ambulances by the end of the summer.
