Instinct kicked in when off-duty paramedic Brandy Baker heard a commotion outside Papa Murphy’s in Rolla, Mo.
An infant was left unattended in a car in the parking lot of a strip mall, and the car caught fire the mother was inside the pizza shop getting food.
“All you could really see was the smoldering car seat,” Store Manager Gina Coffman said.
Baker was nearby.
“I could hear the commotion,” she said. She saw the baby was unresponsive and immediately performed CPR, reviving the 10-month-old.
“It was a very lonely feeling waiting for fire and the EMS crew to show up,” she said. “It felt like forever. It makes you want to go home and hug your kids extra that night.”
The cause of the car fire is under investigation.
