Va. rig catches fire on the highway during patient transport

A second ambulance was needed to bring the patient to a hospital after flames burst through the original rig’s roof and hood

CENTREVILLE, Va. — A Virginia ambulance burst into flames while transporting a patient.

WTOP reported the privately operated, unnamed ambulance was on Interstate 66 in Centreville, Virginia, Tuesday when it caught fire. Flames were seen coming out of the rig’s hood and roof.

The patient was safely taken from the ambulance and transported by another, Fairfax County Fire and Rescue said.

The ambulance crew was not injured during the incident and the cause of the fire is unknown.
