JEFFERSON HILLS, Pa. — Emergency crews responded to a fire at Jefferson Regional Medical Center Tuesday, Allegheny County Emergency Services said.

The 3-alarm fire occurred just before 11:30 a.m. on the roof of the hospital, where active construction was occurring, said Steve Imbarlina, assistant chief of Allegheny County Emergency Services.

Three construction workers on the roof sustained “minor injuries,” Chief Imbarlina said, but the fire was quickly subdued.

No patients were moved or injured due to the incident.

After a preliminary investigation by the county fire marshal, the fire was ruled accidental due to insulation catching fire from the workers welding.

Most of the time firefighters spent at the hospital was to ventilate the area from leftover smoke, officials noted.

Bill Toland, representative of Allegheny Health Network, said that operations at Jefferson Regional are fully back to normal.

“We appreciate the rapid response by the emergency responders,” Mr. Toland said.
