JACKSON, Miss. — The family of a woman who died of cardiac arrest filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Hinds County, the City of Jackson and American Medical Response, alleging that a long response time was a factor in the outcome.

In 2018, Elizabeth Neal, 63, began experiencing chest pains, and 911 was called. An AMR ambulance did not arrive on scene until an hour after the call went out, 16 ABC WAPT reported. By the time the ambulance arrived, Neal had gone into full cardiac arrest. She was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

In response to the lawsuit, Hinds County Attorney Pieter Teeuwissen said AMR is independent of the county, and therefore the county is not liable for Neil’s death.
