Fla. fire department receives EMS motorcycles

The motorcycles will allow first responders easier and quicker access when reaching those in need

FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. — The Fort Walton Beach Fire Department introduced EMS motorcycles into their emergency response vehicle fleet.

The motorcycles are part of the department’s rapid incident deployment and early response team and are being leased from a Harley Davidson dealership for $1 per year.

“We can maneuver these down sidewalks, in between cars, that kind of stuff and get initial boots on the ground. We are carrying cardiac monitors, drugs and everything for ALS support, so they’ll be able to utilize those, get on scene quicker,” Battalion Chief Gene Large told WJHG.

Large said the motorcycles are a “huge benefit to the city and visitors of the city.”

“I think the only downer is that all 11 of us can’t be on them at the same time. The guys are really excited about it, it’s been several months of training and getting them ready,” Large said.
