RUTHERFORD, N.J. — The 14-year-old Paterson girl who fell out of the rear emergency door of a moving school bus in Rutherford last week died over the weekend, police said.
The girl, who was not identified, suffered severe head injuries after apparently opening the rear emergency door of a bus, falling and hitting the pavement on Riverside Avenue on Jan. 2. She was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center to the pediatric intensive care where she had been on life support for several days, police said.
The bus was carrying the girl and three other children who attend the Venture Program Junior and High School in Hackensack, a year-round program that provides extensive mental health services for youths with escalating psychiatric problems. The children were accompanied by both an aide and the driver, said police.
