JACKSON, Miss. — Colleagues of a paramedic injured while assisting a pedestrian who was the victim of a crash were praying for her recovery Thursday.
Jennifer Hesselbein was hit by a car while treating the pedestrian Wednesday night. “She’s got a heart as big as the world, and she’s out here doing it because she wants to help people,” Monterey Volunteer Fire Department Chief James Webb said.
Webb choked back tears while describing Hesselbein. “Awesome. She is just particularly awesome,” Webb said. Hesselbein was called to Bullard Street, where a pedestrian was hit by a car and suffered a broken arm. Police said Hesselbein was loading the patient into an ambulance when a truck driven by Robert Howard hit both of them.
