COLUMBIANA, Ohio — Three workers at a factory just south of Youngstown were injured in an explosion at the facility Thursday night, with one flown by helicopter to a hospital, according to reports.

Columbiana Fire Department officials tell WFMJ Channel 21 that one of the workers at Zarbana Aluminum Extrusions was covered in molten metal in the explosion, which was reported at about 8 p.m. The worker was flown to Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh, WFMJ reports.

The other two workers were taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown.

Columbiana Second Assistant Fire Chief Jason Weiry tells WKBN Channel 27 that the workers were pouring aluminum billet out of the forge into a mold when the explosion occurred.

There were 15 workers in the building when the explosion occurred. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish a small fire caused by the explosion, reports say.

The company’s website says it was founded in 2005. It produces aluminum parts cut to specific shapes that are used in windows, doors, trucks/trailers, solar technology, displays and chalkboards, the website says.
