Wis. EMT dies after falling into lake

MILWAUKEE — A longtime Milwaukee EMT has died after being rescued from Lake Michigan on Friday, June 9.

Bell Ambulance EMT and Field Training Officer John Swanson reportedly fell off his boat at South Shore Marina. A person heard a splash and saw a hat floating on the water and called 911, Fox 6 reported.

First responders from the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office, Milwaukee Fire Department and Milwaukee Police Department arrived and began to search for Swanson. 

Swanson was pulled from the lake and initially had no pulse. Fox 6 reported he was revived by paramedics on the scene but died at a hospital on Sunday.

Swanson had been a member of Bell Ambulance for 16 years.
