ROSS TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Whether it’s a cup of tea or a car wreck, ambulance companies will respond when 911 calls them out. Action News Investigates has learned that on one of every four of those calls, EMS companies are not getting paid.
At Ross/West View, 28 percent of all calls are non-transports. That is slightly higher than the 25 percent average for Allegheny County EMS companies.
A survey of Allegheny County EMS services found 75 percent of them are losing money. On average, they collect only 43 percent of the amount they bill.
