LOUISVILLE, Ky. — An ambulance service has agreed to pay a $40,000 fine over allegations that the company violated the federal Controlled Substances Act.
WHAS11 reported that the settlement agreement Rural Metro failed to keep accurate records about the transfer and disposal of controlled substances.
A federal investigation in 2011 found the company failed to report the theft of morphine to the DEA in the allotted time period and didn’t do enough to prevent the theft of other substances, according to the report. The settlement, however, isn’t an admission of guilt, according to the report.
