2 Texas medics accused of stealing morphine

Police say an employee came forward after witnessing the women injecting themselves with morphine at work

RAYMONDVILLE, Texas — Two paramedics were arrested Tuesday after being accused with stealing morphine from an ambulance.

ValleyCentral reported Sara Ortiz, 35, and Lyndsey Cantu, 27, have been charged with diversion of a controlled substance by a registrant dispenser.

The two women work with Willacy County Emergency Medical Services, according to the report. Police said an employee came forward stating they witnessed the two women injecting themselves with morphine at work, according to the report.

Ortiz and Cantu were placed on administrative leave until their warrants were issued and they were later fired, according to the report.
