BREMEN, Ga. — A 2-year-old boy died several days after his firefighter father pulled him from a lake and performed CPR.

Polk County Fire Rescue Capt. Josh Ingram’s 2-year-old son, Briggs, went underwater on July 17 at Lake Martin in Alabama, according to Fox5Atlanta.

The family had been packing their things to go home when the child wandered away, 11alive reported. It was not clear how long Briggs was in the water.

Ingram performed CPR for over 30 minutes until additional first responders arrived.

The boy was flown to the University of Alabama at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, where Briggs was treated in the pediatric intensive care unit.

“We are heartbroken for our brother firefighter and friend Captain Josh Ingram and his entire family for the loss of their son on Friday,” the fire department said.

A GoFundMe page was set up to help the family: Ingram Family Warrior Fund.
