IAFF and CPF Unveil Online Paramedic Training

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — California firefighters and fire departments can now obtain the latest in online EMS training from the National Paramedic Institute (NPI) at a discount, thanks to a new partnership agreement between NPI, IAFF and California Professional Firefighters.

NPI’s unique and dynamic online training focuses on the recertification and online training needs of firefighters, EMTs and paramedics. NPI’s “Medic Monthly” modules are case-based scenarios showcasing professional fire-based EMS providers across the country.

The training offers CE credits through the Continuing Education Coordinating Board for Emergency Services and is strongly endorsed by IAFF and CPF.

Directed by Dr. Steven Katz, medical director for Florida Professional Firefighters, each module is fast-paced and filled with critical information for EMS professionals. Each course includes a pretest, 20-minute video, post-test explanation and review, and a quiz.

“Never before has the IAFF offered clinically based EMS education opportunities to our members,” said IAFF General President Harold A. Schaitberger. “Our new partnership with the National Paramedic Institute allows us to offer this valuable continuing education online so it is accessible to all members.”
“Medic Monthly” continuing education modules are approved for 1.5 CE credits in all 50 states by the Continuing Education Coordinating Board for Emergency Medical Services (CECBEMS). IAFF members and fire departments affiliated with CPF locals are eligible for training discounts.

“CPF believes that all California firefighters should have the necessary training and information to support fire-based EMS systems,” said CPF President Lou Paulson. “That’s why we’re pleased to be a part of this new partnership between IAFF and NPI. We encourage all first responders to take advantage of this valuable opportunity.”
