OKLAHOMA CITY — An EMSA EMT has been charged with negligent homicide after a fatal crash.
Benjamin Ward Samples, 36, was driving the ambulance during the Dec. 10 collision that killed Fidel Mesa-Solis, 43, according to the Oklahoman.
Even though the ambulance’s lights and sirens were activated, the article says that Samples was going 83 mph in the wrong direction and hit the driver side of Mesa-Solis’ vehicle.
Ed Blau, Samples’ attorney, said in a statement that Samples is not guilty of the charge because he was following EMSA’s guidelines when the crash occurred.
“However, as a dedicated EMSA employee and 33 year Oklahoma City resident, Mr. Samples is devastated by the tragedy that occurred at 10th and May,” Blau’s statement said.
“His thoughts and prayers go out to Mr. Solis’ family and friends.”
