Ambulance thief sentenced to 16 years for fatal crash

Sebastian Isaksen pleaded guilty to carjacking, vehicular manslaughter and DUI

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. — A man who pleaded guilty to carjacking an ambulance and causing a fatal crash has been sentenced to 16 years in prison.

WUSA9.com reported that 34-year-old Sebastian Isaksen pleaded guilty to carjacking, vehicular manslaughter and DUI. Prosecutors said in December 2014, Isaksen crashed the car he was driving. First responders saw the incident and stopped to help.

Police said Isaksen attacked two EMS providers and drove off in the ambulance. Later, he crashed the ambulance into a car and killed its driver, 77-year-old Alvin Hargrave, and a pregnant woman in the car with him was seriously injured.

A spokesperson for the Prince George’s County Fire/EMS said the incident was “horrific” and “extremely unusual”.

Isaksen’s blood-alcohol level at the time was more than double the state’s limit, and it wasn’t the first time he was arrested for a DUI.
