BIBIONE, Italy — Bathers at the seaside resort of Bibione, near Venice, started a volunteer ambulance service to treat dogs feeling ill in the heat.
The pet-friendly service Mi Fido di Te, which means “I trust you,” features volunteers equipped with oxygen, dressing hits, and a microchip reader, BBC News reports.
Authorities said dogs most commonly require medical aid for dehydration or sunstroke, or when injuring themselves playing in the sand.
In the most serious cases, the pets can be carried on a stretcher from the beach to a veterinary clinic.
The services is free, and volunteers are accepting donations to help cover the cost.
Bibioine resort already offers amenities for canines, including showers, beds and leaches, and Pluto Beach, which is especially for dogs.
