GASTON, N.C. — Two paramedics and three others, including a child, were injured when the driver of a Honda crashed into an ambulance while possibly trying to pass a moped Monday afternoon.
The two Stanley Fire and Rescue medics were en route to a call when the crash occurred around 3:45 p.m., on Stanley Spencer Mountain Road, EMS Captain Chris Hendricks told the Gaston Gazette. There were no patients in the ambulance at the time.
One person suffered life-threatening injuries, and was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, the Gaston Gazette reports. Four were transported to CaroMont Regional Medical Center with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The cause of the crash is under investigation and police are reviewing evidence, including video from the ambulance.
