MANCHESTER, N.H. — A young boy is being hailed a hero after calling 911 and saving his grandmother who suffered a medical emergency.

AZFamily reported that Max Velez, 4, was staying with his grandmother when she stopped breathing. He called 911 and “handled” the incident, according to his mother, Fallon Clarke.

“Really extreme – she couldn’t breathe,” Clarke said. “She couldn’t get up, so really, Max handled the whole situation, they said.”

Clarke said Max put the dog in its crate, answered the door for responders and handed them his grandmother’s inhaler. The responders then let him check out their fire truck.

“I’m so proud because he’s really shy, and I guess he was calm the whole situation,” Clarke said. “I got there, and the police (officer) was like, ‘You know, your son saved your mom’s life.’ We’ve practiced in the past. I try and talk to him about emergencies and strangers, so he knows what 911 stands for.”

Max’s grandmother is currently in the hospital being treated for pneumonia, and Max was presented an award by hospital staff for his actions.

The grandmother is expected to be released from the hospital soon.
