COLUMBUS, Ohio — The National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) has announced the dedication of a scholar position in honor of Dr. Craig Manifold, a renowned EMS visionary and medical director who died in September.
The Dr. Craig Manifold EMS Research Scholar position will be filled by an EMS professional who is selected to complete a research fellowship at the National Registry, NREMT officials said in a statement. The scholar will be a full-time employee of the NREMT while receiving fully funded tuition toward the completion of an approved doctoral program, through a partnership with The Ohio State University.
“We are proud to honor the contributions of Dr. Manifold in a way that will continue his legacy,” said Dr. Heather Davis, chair of the NREMT’s Board of Directors. “The work performed by our research fellows directly impacts and shapes the future of prehospital care and emergency medical services, something we know Dr. Manifold was very proud of.”
Manifold served as the medical director for the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) and several EMS agencies in the San Antonio area; he was also an assistant professor in the Department of Emergency Health Sciences, School of Health Professions at the University of Texas Science Center. He served on the National Registry Board starting in 2014, and was the past chair of its Research and International Committees.
The dedication of the scholar position was unanimously approved by the NREMT Board of Directors during its November board meeting.
