Paramedic with PTSD: ‘Don’t leave things bottled up’

Stephen Moody said he reached a breaking point when his family and work stress were at an all-time high

SAN ANTONIO — A paramedic is breaking the silence about PTSD in light of a recent campaign.

News4SanAntonio reported that the San Antonio Professional Fire Fighters Association launched the campaign to address on-the-job stress, family stress and PTSD.

“The main reason I want to come forward, I wanted everybody to get healthy enough to deal with it,” paramedic Stephen Moody said. “You carry a lot of stuff, but there’s [going to] come a breaking point.”

Last September, Moody’s wife died after she had an ectopic pregnancy that burst. Moody said he hopes that others will listen by sharing his story.

“I think the biggest thing is don’t leave it bottled up,” he said.

A state lawmaker in Texas has filed a bill this legislative session to allow responders who suffer from PTSD to receive workers’ compensation.
