NEW YORK — The family of fallen EMT Yadira Arroyo received an all-expenses-paid trip to Disney World thanks to a New Jersey charity foundation.
New York Daily News reported that the Bianca’s Kids foundation held a ceremony at Arroyo’s fire station in the Bronx. Three of her five sons were in attendance.
“When I heard the story of Yadira’s children, basically I related with them more than most,” Debbie Savigliano, president of Bianca’s Kids, said.
Arroyo, 44, was killed in March after a man stole her ambulance and ran her over.
Savigliano’s charity grants wishes to families who have experienced a tragedy. Savigliano said she went straight to her board of directors after hearing about Arroyo’s death.
“I said, ‘This is a wish, not only do we want to do it, but I think it should be the biggest wish that we’ve ever granted,’” Savigliano said.
Arroyo’s oldest son, Jose Montes, said his mother’s death has brought the family together more than ever.
“We’ve been communicating more than we ever have in our entire lives,” Montes said.
Arroyo’s son Kenny recently graduated from EMT training and now works for a private ambulance company.
