Ohio FF/EMT, 21, killed in single-vehicle crash

SPRINGCREEK TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A 21-year-old volunteer firefighter and EMT died Friday night in a fiery single-vehicle crash.

WHIO reported that at about 11:30 p.m. Kevin McMaken, with the Kettering (Ohio) Fire Department, lost control at a bend, went off the side of the road and hit a tree; his vehicle then caught fire. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

McMaken’s Facebook page was filled with condolence messages from friends and family.

Speed is believed to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office.
