Outbreak of Legionnaire’s disease in the Bronx, 2 dead

Thirty-one cases have been reported since July 10 and the health department is investigating the cause the of the outbreak

NEW YORK — The New York City Department of Health says it’s investigating an outbreak of Legionnaire’s disease in the South Bronx.

The department said Wednesday that 31 cases have been reported since July 10.

There have been two deaths reported in patients with Legionnaire’s disease in that area. The health department is investigating their relationship to the outbreak.

Health experts are testing water from cooling towers and other potential sources to determine the cause of the outbreak.

New Yorkers with respiratory symptoms, such as fever, cough, chills and muscle aches, are advised to promptly seek medical attention.
