OCALA, Fla. — A Marion County Fire Rescue paramedic whose emergency vehicle was nearly hit head on by a reckless driver on Christmas morning followed the car until the driver was stopped by authorities and charged with DUI.
According to an arrest narrative by Marion County sheriff’s Deputy Nicholas Austin, paramedic Brandon Brown was traveling west in the 6000 block of West State Road 40 in a MCFR unit around 1 a.m. Wednesday when it was “almost struck head on” by a gray 2005 four-door Cadillac “traveling east in the westbound lanes,” authorities said.
The paramedic unit is based at MCFR Station 22, located at 19995 SW 86th St. in Dunnellon. The report indicates that, upon almost becoming involved in an accident, Brown, 38, called the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and “began to follow the (Cadillac),” which continued while “swerving and unable to maintain a single lane,” authorities said.
