Ambulance falls 100 feet down embankment; sparks power outage and brush fire

The downed power lines sparked a small brush fire, but fire crews were able to knock out the blaze quickly; no injuries were reported

CARLSBAD, Calif. — Authorities issued a Sig Alert Monday after an ambulance fell 100 feet off down an embankment in Carlsbad causing a power outage and a small brush fire.

The crash was reported at 4 a.m. on east state Route 78 at College Boulevard.

Initial reports indicate that an ambulance lost control and went over an embankment, falling about 100 feet. 10News learned that the crash knocked down power lines and caused an outage for more than 1,000 San Diego Gas & Electric customers. As of 6:30 a.m., most of the power was restored.
