MT. STERLING, Ky. — A car crash escalated into an arrest after a man assaulted an EMS provider.

WKYT reported that police responded to a crash scene, and when they arrived a man was unresponsive in the passenger seat.

They learned a female driver had fled the scene, and soon realized the man, William Lillie, was not injured from the crash; he had overdosed. The victim was given naloxone in the back of an ambulance.

When he regained consciousness, police said he stated that he did not want to return to jail. He then shoved an EMS provider and escaped the ambulance.

Lillie was later arrested and charged with third-degree assault.
