RALEIGH, N.C. — An EMS department in North Carolina is celebrating its 40th birthday with an old school paint job for its brand new ambulance.

NewsObserver.com reported Wake County EMS, which began in 1976, first had ambulances painted green and white to avoid confusion with the police department. They now have blue and white ambulances, but officials decided to commemorate the department’s birthday by painting their new ambulance with the old color scheme.

Assistant Chief Jeff Hamerstein said the new ambulance will be state-of-the-art on the inside and will go into service in about two weeks. They also include up-to-date safety measures, such as large reflective chevrons on the back doors and reflective green paint.
