MADISON, Wis. — Narcan will become more affordable for some first responders to carry in Wisconsin thanks to a rebate program from a pharmaceutical company.
WKOW.com reported the company will offer a $6 rebate for Narcan to be carried on ambulances.
“The notion that both Ohio and N.Y. had negotiated similar deals in their states came to the attention of our ambulance association,” said Patrick Ryan, president of the State Professional Ambulance Association.
The idea to find a rebate came up after Ryan talked to Attorney General Brad Schimel about price negotiations for Narcan.
“It hadn’t occurred to me to seek the rebates, it just hadn’t occurred to me that this was becoming such a budget impact,” Schimel said.
Ryan said the deal will allow rural ambulance companies to carry what they need without having to make hard decisions because of budget constraints.
“It’s going to be a real help at the end of the year when the [the ambulance companies] decide what they’re going to buy,” he said.
