LIVINGSTON COUNTY, Mich. — Police said today that the Livingston County EMS ambulance that struck and killed a pedestrian initially left the scene, but immediately returned after 911 reported a “body in the road.”
Detective 1st Lt. Sean Furlong of the Michigan State Police headquarters in Lansing said the ambulance was traveling west on Grand River Avenue around 2 a.m. Monday heading toward the local hospital when it struck a pedestrian in front of Burger King at 2184 E. Grand River Ave., near Golf Club Road in Genoa Township.
“The ambulance did not stop immediately upon hitting him,” Furlong said this morning. “I don’t believe they knew they hit him. I don’t think they realized it happened until the 911 call went out for pedestrian in the roadway.”
