LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Police have recovered a car belonging to a Louisville EMT who has been recovering in the hospital from a June 23 ambulance crash.
EMT Jon Johnson, along with EMT John Morgan, were injured when their ambulance crashed into a blue Geo Metro turning right. The 48-year-old driver of the car, Christopher D. O’Bryan, was pronounced dead at the scene, WDRB.com reports.
The ambulance lost control and slammed into a construction crane, trapping the two EMTs inside. A piece of construction equipment on the scene was used to extricate them.
They had lights and sirens on, and were responding to a report of a man down. The call was cancelled about a minute after it went out.
Johnson’s fiancé Tammy Hall told WDRB.com that he suffered a fractured tibia and sternum. He’s making progress and was able to get into a wheelchair, she said. But when she went outside one morning, she noticed his car, which they use to drive to the hospital to visit him, was missing.
The 2009 Ford Focus had a gun belonging to Johnson inside the glove compartment. The Meade County Sheriff’s Department found the car, and said it had bullet hole throughout, along with other damage.
