N.Y. EMS fundraises for new ambulance

Fort Covington EMS added a new Ford ambulance to its fleet and held a barbecue fundraiser during the townwide yard sale to help cover the cost

FORT COVINGTON, N,Y. — The Fort Covington Emergency Medical Services squad recently added a new Ford ambulance to its fleet and was out serving food during Saturday’s town-wide yard sale event to help accumulate funds to pay for the vehicle.

A crew of volunteer members of the Fort Covington EMS had a barbecue set up at the station along Route 37 and had pulled pork, hamburgers, Glaziers among the refreshments for sale.

According to the EMS Chief Mike Gibbons, he was in the early morning hours preparing the pulled pork, which was billed as the best food on the menu that day. He said that the money from the food sales would go toward paying for the vehicle.

Gibbons also said that like many other EMS emergency services in the region, is in need of volunteers. The crew helping serve food at the station agreed that EMS squads these days are taken for granted and many are short on volunteers.
