AGAWAM, Mass. – Two paramedics and the passenger in another vehicle were injured when a Jeep slammed into a recently purchased Agawam ambulance early Saturday morning.
The driver of the Jeep, who was uninjured, was detained by city police and later turned over to Chicopee Police, who charged him with unrelated offenses from an earlier incident in that city, Agawam fire officials said.

The crash took place at about 1:30 a.m. at the intersection of Boland Way and East Columbus Avenue. The ambulance, which was heading to a call and was traveling with traffic without lights or sirens, collided with the Jeep. The paramedics did not have a patient in the ambulance, fire officials said.
The passenger in the Jeep was ejected and brought to a local hospital for treatment. Her condition was unknown, fire officials said.
The two Agawam Fire Department paramedics were taken to Baystate Noble Hospital in Westfield and treated and released, fire officials said.
The driver of the Jeep was unhurt. Chicopee Police did not provide the charges he faced when contacted Sunday.
“Agawam Rescue 1 (ambulance), purchased new in 2026 for over $400,000, was in service for only two weeks. It is estimated that it will be out of service for approximately 3 months to facilitate repairs,” fire officials said.
