DAYTON, Ohio — A woman is in critical condition Monday after she reportedly fell down a high-rise apartment building’s garbage chute and into a trash compactor.
Nick Judge, district chief for the Dayton Fire Department, tells WHIO Channel 7 that the woman was “severely entangled in the trash compactor” when rescuers arrived at The View at Dayton Towers at about 10 a.m. Janitors heard the woman’s calls for help from the compactor, WHIO reports.
Judge tells WKEF it took about 90 minutes to free the woman. Judge said rescuers were concerned the saws used to cut the compactor apart might ignite flammable trash materials, WHIO reports.
Reports did not say how the woman managed to fall down the chute or how far she fell. After she was freed, she was taken to Miami Valley Hospital.
