New video shows Cleveland EMS crew attacked as push grows for tougher penalties

Footage captures responders calling for help and police rushing to a chaotic scene as officials weigh stronger protections for EMS personnel

CLEVELAND — Newly released video shows Cleveland police responding after an EMS crew came under attack in November 2025.

The footage, obtained by FOX 8, shows officers arriving to help rescue the rescue squad as calls grow for stronger protections for healthcare workers.

Radio traffic captured one EMS crew member urgently calling for help, saying, “We need police now,” and reporting that the patient was fighting them in the middle of the street.

Police dashcam video shows officers rushing to the scene, while body camera footage captures the first officer arriving to find a violent, chaotic struggle underway.

EMS union leaders say the attack is part of a sharp rise in assaults on EMS personnel.

The case comes as Cleveland City Council considers stronger penalties for attacks on healthcare workers in hospitals and on the streets. That proposal remains under review in committee.
