OAK GROVE, Minn. — A great-grandmother from Anoka County is recovering in the hospital after being trapped in a house fire, surviving what could have been a deadly situation after several quick-thinking heroes arrived before firefighters could.
Lillian Rose Anderson, 81, of Oak Grove, Minnesota – known to many as Grandma Mickey – was trapped by thick smoke after a grease fire started in the kitchen on Sept. 7, just before 7 p.m. at her home on the 196th block of Ibis Street. Two paramedics arrived before the volunteer fire department and ran into the burning home when they heard cries for help.
The fire started after a relative living in the home forgot she had heated oil to make french fries, and the fire that followed destroyed the kitchen. Smoke billowed into the living room where Grandma Mickey sat sleeping in her favorite chair. When the smoke woke her up, she called 911, and tried to escape, but fell.
