ROCHESTER, Minn. — A 1-year-old girl who was apparently accidentally locked inside a car spent about 30 minutes in the hot vehicle before Rochester firefighters broke a window to get the child out.

Police and a fire crew responded at about 12:25 p.m. Thursday to 2015 41st St. N.W., where they found the child in her car seat, sweating so much her hair was wet, the report says.

The child’s mother and other bystanders were outside the car, said Larry Mueller, assistant fire marshal. The owner of the vehicle had left to get a set of spare keys.

Firefighters broke out a window, using heavy tape to control the glass breakage and prevent injury to the child, Mueller said.

The 1-year-old was evaluated by Gold Cross Ambulance personnel at the scene and released to the parents, the report says.

It’s unclear if charges will be filed, a police official said.
