Police said the driver of the ambulance, a 58-year-old male, was driving south on Richmond Ave. and that as he started turning left onto Christopher Lane, he collided with a bicyclist who was also south on the avenue but riding in the northbound lane.
The FDNY said the driver was not en route to a medical emergency at the time of the crash.
The bicyclist, a man believed to be in his 40s, was rushed by medics to Richmond University Medical Center but could not be saved.
The ambulance driver stayed at the scene.
