NEW ORLEANS, La. — A Gretna Police Department ambulance transporting a young patient to Children’s Hospital in New Orleans was involved in a crash Wednesday morning. The child was not injured, four others were taken to a local hospital with non life-threatening injuries, according to Officer Garry Flot, spokesman for the New Orleans Police Department.
“The child was strapped in to a stretcher,” Gretna Police Deputy Chief Anthony Christiana said shortly after the accident. “New Orleans EMS has transported the child on to Children’s Hospital.”
The two-car crash occurred about 10:05 a.m. at Baronne and Calliope streets. Flot said the driver of the ambulance disregarded a red light, hit a sport utility vehicle and then crashed into a power pole on river-bound Calliope.
