DALE CITY, Va. — In 2008, The Department of Justice made a decision to deny benefits to the family of a fallen Public Safety Officer in Va. This decision was recently overturned.
The Department of Justice claimed she was not a certified firefighter at the time of her death, but on Friday, June 15, the family of EMT Cecilia Turnbough was awarded line of duty benefits.
Turnbough was training to be a volunteer firefighter when she suffered a heart attack.
This decision is a win for all public safety officials, and their families who are on the job or in training.
