MEDFORD — An incident not on the Medford Township Council meeting agenda for July 16 drew, by far, the most public attention that night.
The meeting was strictly routine until public discussion opened. At that time Kevin Ellicott, a former firefighter and EMT (emergency medical technician), addressed council about a pension he is seeking after being injured on the job.
In December 2010, Ellicott, working as part of a Medford EMS team, attempted to lift a 300-plus pound man. His back gave out. Eventually, surgery was required, and rods were inserted in Ellicott’s back to fix his injuries as well as possible.
Since then, Ellicott, at that time a Medford Lakes resident, has been unable to work in his chosen fields. He has been seeking a medical pension. Unfortunately, he was two weeks short of the required time served needed for automatic qualification.
