Ky. fire to increase EMS funds for better response times

The fire district plans to raise taxes to increase EMS services after a 2013 reduction resulted in inadequate response times

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — In 2013, Louisville’s 17 suburban fire districts reduced the number of emergency medical services calls they responded to by thousands in an attempt to lower costs.

But at least one district has reconsidered that change after 168 people facing semi-critical medical issues did not receive ambulance service within three to five minutes of calling 911 last year.

To respond to more calls, however, the district will do something no resident wants to hear — raise taxes.
