Va. officials moving ahead with ambulance fee measure

Through this method, the county is estimated to receive nearly $6 million in annual revenue

LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. — Ailing Loudoun County residents may soon have to cough up some cash if they need Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and ambulance transport.

The Board of Supervisors have directed staff to prepare and finalize a billing system for ambulance services, with estimated charges ranging from $450 to nearly $800, depending on services needed, in addition to being billed 12 cents per mile of transport.

But while Loudoun locals and visitors may receive an invoice for mobile EMS services, supervisors opted for a “soft billing” method, meaning they won’t force the county treasurer to pursue payment collection. Even after three unanswered monthly notices, the county will not report the bill to collections or debt rating agencies.
