LINCOLN, R.I. — A city donated an ambulance and emergency gear sets to a Haitian community that has no hospital.

WPRI reported that the city of Lincoln donated the apparatus and 10 sets of gear to Belle-Anse, who had no emergency transportation before the donation.

The donation was facilitated by city officials with the help of Lt. Gov. Dan McKee, New Bridges for Haitian Success founder and CEO Bernard Georges and Greenwood Emergency Vehicles, which provides local areas with ambulances and fire trucks.

New Bridges for Haitian Success, which provides support to Haiti as well as the Haitian population of Rhode Island, will transport the rig to Belle-Anse.

“Bringing just one ambulance to Belle-Anse will significantly increase access to medical care and improve the quality of life for so many families in a community that is still recovering from the devastation of Hurricane Matthew,” Lt. Governor McKee said.

Georges said “many lives in Belle-Anse will be saved and forever changed.”

“This donation will allow our organization to facilitate health services in a town of 158,000 people whose medical needs are tremendously underserved,” he added.
