Fla. firefighter injured at accident scene

The firefighter was taking a backboard out of an ambulance when a car drove by, causing the injury

BAKER, Fla. — A Baker Fire Department captain was injured at the scene of traffic crash at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Capt. Timothy Busby, 52, of Crestview, was at the wreck on State Road 85 about a quarter-mile south of 77th Special Forces Way, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Busby was standing on the left side of an ambulance trying to take the backboard out of it. The ambulance was parked in the inside turn lane facing south.

Scotty Matthews, 40, of Crestview, was driving a 2003 Toyota Tundra south on SR 85 in the inside through lane. As Busby took the backboard out, it hit the left side of the Tundra and spun in his hands. Busby’s right arm got caught in the backboard’s strap, wrenching his right elbow, the FHP reported.
