ORANGE PARK, Fla. — A town’s only ambulance was recently removed after the county unanimously voted to do so.
Action News Jax reported that Orange Park is currently without an ambulance after Clay County Board of Commissioners voted to remove Rescue 19 from Station 19.
Patients are being transported with ambulances from Clay County’s fire stations, but Orange Park town manager Sarah Campbell is concerned about emergency response times.
Campbell said victims of a recent vehicle crash had to wait 13 minutes for an ambulance despite fire engines from Station 19 arriving in four minutes.
“That’s a problem when you need to go to the hospital quickly,” Campbell said.
Campbell added that the town hopes to buy its own ambulance but needs approval from the county.
“We still have to go through that application process and this could be a permanent state of affairs for our residents, unfortunately,” Campbell said.
