Ambulance door malfunction traps gunshot victim in rig outside emergency room

Firefighters broke the doors to let the patient out after the crew couldn’t open them

CLEVELAND — A shooting victim became stuck in a Cleveland ambulance outside an emergency department this week after the rig’s back doors wouldn’t open.

The Cleveland EMS crew transported the patient from the scene of the fatal shooting to University Hospitals and couldn’t get the back doors open to unload the patient upon arriving at the emergency department, according to FOX8.

Firefighters ultimately broke open the doors to let the patient out after several minutes. The patient underwent surgery at the hospital and is now in stable condition.

FOX8 reports that Cleveland EMS had previously raised concerns about problems with their ambulance fleet, including breakdowns and problems with doors.
